Proceeds from Macedonia’s gymkhana will go towards its community sports’ fraternity

Dear Editor,

On Sunday April 16, 2023, the Macedonia Joppa Voluntary Committee (MJVC), a non-profit organization, will hold the largest gymkhana event in the region at Nan Persaud Star Plus Racetrack at No. 36 Village in East Corentyne, Berbice. While the first gymkhana hosted by the MJVC group last November was well attended and a major success, the April 16 event is expected to attract dozens of owners of horses and thousands of horse racing fans from as far as West Coast Berbice and elsewhere.

Weather permitting, the gymkhana will be an all-day gala family festivity starting from 10:00 AM with live music and various other regale and attractions including, such as Greasy Pigs and donkey races among others to entertain the adult fans. There will also be trampolines and Bouncy Castle competition and other frills to entertain the children. In addition, hundreds of thousands of dollars and trophies in prizes will be awarded to winners and runners-up of the races.

Proceeds from the event will go towards the rebuilding of the collapsed 80-year-old Brighton Racetrack and a new recreation center equipped with sports paraphernalia for cricket, basketball, lawn tennis, and volley ball courts as well as games for the more than 4.000 residents, especially the youths from the Macedonia Joppa district and beyond. All are invited.

Sincerely,

Dr. Asquith Rose

Ms. Vanessa Ross-Albert.
