Army Major, Delrae McClean swapped his camouflage fatigues for red posing trunks on Saturday night and was crowned this year’s Mr. Novices Champion.

The 38-year old took his sharp physique to the Mining Town and sliced through the fierce competition to win the coveted Novices Bodybuilding Championship overall trophy at Lichas Hall.

Outfitted with ripped abs, horse shoe triceps and cross striated quads, the militia man had a dominant showing as he posed and flexed with military precision en route to capturing the overall title.

McClean, was several ranks above his two other rivals in the Under 165 pounds segment. He then returned to defeat a game line up of category winners which included  Yehoshua Boodie (Under 143), crowd favorite, Daniel Lutchman (Under 154), and Errol Teekaram (Under 176).

Men’s Physique

In a highly controversial decision, the judges awarded the Men’s Physique showdown trophy to Trisson Harte, ahead of Unity Gym’s, Kwesi Anderson and Unity Gym Palace’s Seon Budhan.

Among the group of seven physique competitors Harte clad in blue board shorts, brought the shape and stage presence the judges most wanted to see.

Like Anderson and Budhan, Harte was confident, well-proportioned, well-muscled and not overly conditioned. The first timers really put on a show and the level of competition continues to rise especially in the flourishing Men’s Physique class.

Melitha Anderson, a product from Space Gym, was the near perfect mix of muscularity, symmetry, beauty and style and took home the spoils for the category ahead of her worthy opponent, Melissa Rickett.

Another Space Gym standout, Vanisha Munroe, had the crowd buzzing the very first time she set her stilettos on stage. Even though she was the only athlete in the category, her level of conditioning, symmetry and sass would have earned her the gold on any given night.

Like Anderson and Rickett, Munroe will now have her sights set on perhaps the Intermediate Championships, the flagship National Seniors Championships and even Regional competitions later this year.

Mr. Linden and Ms. Best Legs

Omissi Williams, the sole competitor in the Mr.Linden category took home the trophy as did Oshelle Williams in the Ms. Best Legs segment.

The annual fixture which was held with a viewing audience for the second time since the onset of the pandemic, was mainly sponsored by Fitness Express.

Next up on the local competition calendar is the Intermediate Championships scheduled for sometime in the third quarter of the year. It was announced that the  flagship National Senior Championships is billed for November.
