Poor water pressure affecting Humanitarian Mission classes

President of the Humanitarian Mission Guyana Inc, Suresh Sugrim yesterday bemoaned the current situation they are facing as it relates to the poor water pressure at Babu Jaan, Port Mourant, Corentyne where the mission’s building is located.

According to Sugrim, if the low pressure continues the possibility exists that they might have to close the building, where several training programmes are carried out daily until something is done.

A frustrated Sugrim yesterday said  that the situation has been ongoing for a long time but that over the last couple of months, it has worsened. He said, water “a run two to three hours morning and two to three hours afternoon and then when you pump it still doesn’t make a difference because the water pressure is so slow. I don’t know what is causing it, people in Tain are getting full pressure but we aren’t here.”

The mission’s building houses several different training classes for persons within the region from various ages daily, and according to Sugrim, 95% of the students are female. Yesterday, he said that if the situation continues and there isn’t enough water to operate the washroom facilities then they will have no choice but to close the building and cancel all classes.

According to Sugrim, he has raised the issue several times with the Guyana Water Inc and a minister of government.

“I am here for five days and trying to pump water but still it’s not filling up… The President (Irfaan Ali) means well and is asking the diaspora to return but basic amenities such as water and light should be a priority”, Sugrim stated.

While pleading for assistance with the situation, Sugrim called for 24-hour water service.
