Porter dies after lorry topples on Potaro Road

Kurt Ferreira, a 45-year-old porter of Lot 25 Swan, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, died on Monday at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), after the lorry he was in lost control while descending a hill on the Potaro Road, Bartica.

The police report stated said the driver and owner of the motor lorry, GAC 4427, Bramroop Raganauth, 50, of South East Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara suffered  abrasions about his body. He is at the GPH and his condition is regarded as stable.

Enquiries disclosed that about 17:50 hrs on Monday, the driver of the lorry was speeding along 15 km Potaro Road, Bartica and while descending a hill, he lost control of the lorry causing it to topple. As a result, the driver along with Ferreira received injuries about their bodies

They were both picked up in a conscious condition by public-spirited passersby and transported to the GPH. The driver after being examined admitted to the male surgical ward, suffering from abrasion about his body.

Ferreira however, was pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigations are ongoing.
