Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall yesterday did a walk-about on Regent Street and interacted with vendors about clogged drains that resulted in flooding.

The Mayor and City Council and vendors will be collaborating to clean the clogged drains along Regent Street on Sunday. “Everyone that I spoke to indicated that they will help to clean the drains on Sunday,” Dharamlall said.

He added, “We want people to ply their trade and do so in a structured and organized way.”

He explained that the vendors were engaged following rumours that the stalls were broken during the exercise that started last Sunday. The vendors also acknowledged that as a result of the clogged drains, they are experiencing flooding especially during the rainy season.

The minister was accompanied by Town Clerk, Candace Nelson, and City Engineer, Colvern Venture.

Nelson added that in the process of the City Council desilting the drains and removing the pallets, vendors will not be displaced.
