Former national footballer `Cardo’ Williams wins TT  tournament in the US

Former national footballer Vibert `Cardo’ Williams Sunday won the Masters category of the Caribbean Basin Table Tennis Initiative tournament in the United States of America.

Williams, a former midfielder in the Guyana national football team, started playing the celluloid sport after his retirement from football and has racked up an impressive resume with wins over a number of talented and highly ranked players.

Playing in the Masters division of the tournament which was held Sunday at the

Nazareth High School 475 East 57th Street, Brooklyn New York, Williams first disposed of tournament co-ordinator and former St Vincent and the Grenadines national player,

Francis `Sky’ Llewellyn in his first round match.

Later he defeated Brian Maxwell 3-1 in the semi-finals before defeating another Guyanese John Duncan 3-1 in the final.

Trinidad’s Naruddin Mohammed, father of national player Khaleel Asgaralli, won the Open Division.

Also participating in the tournament were Guyanese Mark Coleman and George Nicholas.
