A suspected carjacker died early yesterday morning and a second suspect is hospitalised in a critical condition after they crashed the vehicle they had earlier stolen from a taxi driver at the Soesdyke Junction, East Bank Demerara (EBD).

Stating that the identities of the suspects remain unknown, police said it was around 02:45 hrs yesterday that they pounced on Joel Williams, a 34-year-old taxi driver of Grove Squatting Area, EBD.

Williams told investigators that he had gone to the Soesdyke Junction to purchase food when the two men, one of whom was armed with a knife, pounced on him. He said the suspect with the knife demanded the key to his vehicle and he handed it out of fear. He told the police that the men then escaped with his burgundy-colour Premio car valued at $2.5 million.

The police later discovered the stolen car crashed into a utility pole at Land of Canaan, EBD.
