17-year-old one of two charged with handyman’s murder

A 17-year-old was one of two charged yesterday with the murder committed on a handyman late last month and they both were remanded to prison

Ronaldo Warnauth, a 21-year-old construction worker of Lot 40 Phoenix Park, West Bank Demerara along with the 17-year-old from Phoenix Park Squatting Area, were charged jointly yesterday with the murder of Wafad Wahab, which occurred on April 29th at New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop.

They appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magis-trate’s Court before Magis-trate Faith McGusty, where the charge was read to them. They were not required to plea and were both remanded to prison. The matter was adjourned to May 29th for disclosure and report.

Stabroek News had reported that 45-year-old Wahab called Ricky of Lot 6 Harlem, West Coast Demerara.had gone to visit his aunt Kumarie, who had arrived from the United States. However, when Wahab arrived there his aunt recognised that he was under the influence of alcohol. She reportedly told him that she did not like seeing him in such a condition, so he must go home, relax and return the following day to see her. Wahab left, walking east along the road.

It was while he in the vicinity of Strikey’s Bar located on New Road Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara when he was attacked. An eyewitness had said the suspects rode off on bicycles in a northern direction into Evergreen Street and escaped. After the attack, Wahab got up and staggered into Strikey’s Bar where the proprietor heard a customer shouting, “watch this man bleeding hay boy.”

The proprietor immediately called the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station and a police vehicle with ranks arrived within minutes and took him to the West Demerara Regional Hos-pital. He was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor.

The report had said Wahab sustained wounds to his left shoulder, lower left back, outer and inner parts of his right arm and right side of the rib area.
