A 24-year-old Vreed-en-Hoop butcher who was charged with attempted murder was yesterday remanded to prison.

Omesh Ramdan of Vreed-en-Hoop Squatting Area, West Bank Demerara (WBD) appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan who remanded him to prison until February 27th. The charge read that on January 27th at the Georgetown Ferry Stelling, Stabroek, Ramdan unlawfully and maliciously wounded David Pear with intent to murder him. He was not required to plead to the indictable charge.

According to the prosecution, at about 18:10hrs on the day in question, the virtual complainant, Pear, was at a stall at the Stabroek Market area when he noticed Ramdan running towards him with a knife. Pear then hid behind the said stall as Ramdan proceeded to run towards the stelling area. Pear followed and after approaching Ramdan, asked him if he had just robbed someone.

The Court heard that Ramdan became annoyed at the question and then dealt Pear multiple stabs about his body with the knife he had in his possession. Pear fell to the ground and was later picked up by an Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he currently remains  a patient. Ramdan was eventually located, told of the offence, cautioned and arrested.
