President Irfaan Ali on Tuesday accepted the Letters of Credence from the Resident Ambassador of Mexico,  Mauricio Vizcaino Crespo, at the Office of the President on Shiv Chanderpaul Drive.

A release from the Office of the President said that Ali pointed to the strengthened ties between the two countries and areas for further collaboration, including food security. He cited Mexico’s skillsets, technical capabilities and experience as Guyana positions itself as a hub for food production in the region.

The President added that it is vital for the Mexican private sector to understand what is taking place in Guyana and to create opportunities to be part of the country’s transformation.

In his remarks, the release said that Crespo said his mission is to strengthen relations between the two countries and to celebrate the 50 years of diplomatic ties with new initiatives and projects.

Guyana and Mexico established diplomatic ties on March 1, 1973.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hugh Todd and the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Elisabeth Harper, were also at the ceremony.
