After waiving his rights to extradition following his arrest here last Friday, United States fugitive Bobby Allen Stark was yesterday morning deported to his home country where he had fled child molestation charges, Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn said.

“He was arrested after overstaying his time. He waived his rights to extradition and he was deported this morning where he will be met by US authorizes in Miami,” Benn told the Stabroek News yesterday when contacted.

Sources familiar with the case told this newspaper that Stark came to this country sometime last year and had overstayed his time. Immigration authorities here were tipped off and along with police from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Stark on the East Coast of Demerara last Friday. In custody, and after being told of the warrant for his arrest in addition to being charged here for overstaying his time, Stark told the police that he wanted to return to his homeland. “He requested to return to the US…there was no need to activate the extradition process,” a source explained.

The Colorado Springs Gazette had in March of this year reported that Crime Stoppers was offering a US$1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of Stark who is suspected of sexually assaulting a child.

“Crime Stoppers is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of a man suspected of sexually assaulting a child. Bobby Allen Stark, 52, is wanted on suspicion of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, according to court records. The felony charge suggests a pattern of repeated abuse,” the article stated.

“Stark was arrested April 30, 2022, in connection with the charge. He posted a $25,000 bond on May 2 and failed to appear for a scheduled jury trial in El Paso County in October, court records show. Stark is 5-foot-8 and weighs 190 pounds, according to a news release. Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information on his whereabouts,” the Gazette added.

The US Embassy today issued the following statement on the matter:

Fugitive arrested in Guyana

Georgetown – On Friday, May 12, 2023, Officers of the Guyana Police Force Criminal Investigations Department, in a joint effort with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and United States Diplomatic Security Service, arrested a federal fugitive who fled the United States to seek shelter from justice in Guyana.

The fugitive is wanted for criminal acts allegedly committed in the United States. Acting on information received, Guyana Police Force Officers, in collaboration with Diplomatic Security Service, located the fugitive. The fugitive was escorted back to the United States by federal agents to face charges.

The United States Embassy thanks the Government of Guyana, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Guyana Police Force for their commitment and determination in maintaining the rule of law and ensuring foreign fugitives do not seek or find refuge in Guyana to avoid prosecution.
