A man was granted bail yesterday after being charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm

Charles Cobenna (address not given) yesterday appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Leron Daly where he was charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm.

It is alleged that on Saturday, April 29, at Alexander Street, Kitty, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm upon Ronald Williams.

The Court heard that Williams, the virtual complainant (VC) and the defendant are known to each other since they live in the same area. On the day in question at about 17:00 hours the victim was at the Kitty Market sitting on a bench. He then went to a shop across the road and upon his return saw the accused sitting on the said bench. The victim informed the accused that he was sitting there and asked him to get up. The accused got up and dealt the victim a cuff to the side of his jaw which knocked several of his teeth out. The matter was reported to the Kitty Police Station and the VC saw a doctor for his injuries. The accused was arrested and told of the allegation and cautioned, at which time he stated orally, “De man box me and we end up in a scuffle.” The accused was later charged with the offence.

Cobenna pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail in the sum of $75,000.

The matter was adjourned until July 07.
