Overseas Golden Jaguars footballers arrive in Jamaica

A total of 13 overseas born and/or based players have so far arrived in Jamaica as part of the Golden Jaguars senior men’s training camp ahead of their CONCACAF Gold Preliminary campaign which commences June 17th.

This was stated by a source close to the federation who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

According to the source, 19 players are currently in the Land of Wood and Water.

“The foreign born contingent in Jamaica at the moment are: Emery Welshman, Stephon Duke-McKenna, Nathan Moriah-Welsh, Callum Harriott, Elliot Bonds, Samuel Cox, Liam Gordon, Kadel Daniels, Tre Medford, Jalen Jones, Jonathan Grant, Reece Greenidge, and Neil Danns. They have arrived at different intervals since the locally based players reached Jamaica,” the source disclosed.

“The locally based contingent comprises Trayon Bobb, Jeremy Garrett, Curtez Kellman, Daniel Wilson, Leo Lovell, and Akel Clarke.

“Omari Glasgow has not been released by his MLS Next Pro club the Chicago Fire II at the moment but is expected to join the team in Miami for the United States leg of the training camp which concludes on June 15th. Similarly, teammates Colin Nelson and Kelsey Benjamin of the Guyana Defence Force are also expected to join the team shortly. That would take the number to 22 players”, the source added.

The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) during an earlier press release, stated that the team, which will depart Jamaica from June 5th, will comprise 23 players. However, they have not released the official list of players or management and technical staff personnel.

Efforts to contact GFF General Secretary Ian Alves for a comment proved futile. Calls to his cellular phone went unanswered up to press time.

Guyana is scheduled to face Grenada on  June 17th at the DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. If successful, they will play the winner of the Guatemala and Trinidad and Tobago encounter for a place in the Gold Cup.

Some 23 players will form the final squad for the Gold Cup preliminaries.

The Golden Jaguars qualified for the CONCACAF Gold Cup preliminaries  following a runner-up finish in group C of League B in the 2022/20223 edition of the Nations League.
