Tourism training: The Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA) yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ActionInvest Caribbean Inc (ACI). A release from the Ministry of Tourism said that the MoU aims to establish a framework for collaboration between ACI and GTA to promote and develop the hospitality and tourism industry in Guyana. ACI will develop and deliver hospitality and tourism training programnes to support the development of the industry in Guyana. The signing took place at the launch of the Tourism and Hospitality Training programmes at the Marriott Hotel.

During his remarks at the ceremony, Anthony said that the nearest health centre is some distance away from Mon Repos.

“The next health centre that we have here is at Lusigan, which is some distance away. Mon Repos is a very big area and this is something that a lot of people in the area have been asking for, for many years, so we looked at it and we made an analysis that there’s a gap here and we need to fill that gap. So, based on that assessment, we went ahead and developed the project.”, Anthony said.

He added that doctors and nurses have been identified for the facility and upon completion, the newly developed health facility will provide services such as modern child care, immunization for children, treatment for chronic diseases, point of care laboratory, and other specialised services such as dental services, among others.

Among those present at the sod-turning event were the Regional Health Officer for Region Four, Dr Gavin Persaud and the Chairman of the Neighbourhood Democratic Council, Ayube Mohammed.
