As the sixth season of Guyana Restaurant Week (GRW) was launched on Monday, Head of the Guyana Tourism Authority, Kamrul Baksh announced that a total of 17 restaurants will be participating this year. He noted that one of the top things GRW has been failing to do is to adequately sell the local fruits, the vegetables, the meals, and the cuisine.

“We have a diverse and rich mix of food, and I think we need to do a much better job putting that out there into the world… I believe we have the collective capacity, not only to bring the culinary product to the forefront, but every other thing that we have from the service delivery,” he said.

Newly elected President of the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG) Omadele George was present at the launch and she expressed gratitude to participating restaurants, sponsors, and patrons who have, made GRW a success in the past years.

“Your unwavering commitment to showcase the rich culinary heritage and diversity of our beautiful nation has captivated the taste buds and imagination with both locals and visitors alike. GRW has become a much anticipated event on our annual calendar offering a delightful journey through our vibrant culinary landscape,” the General Manager of Herdmanston Lodge stated.

The 17 restaurants that will be participating in this year’s GRW are: Aagman Indian Restaurant, Aracari Resort, Bistro Café & Bar, Bistro Wine & Champagne Bar, Cara Lodge, Eco-Garden Vegetarian Restaurant, Hard Rock Café, Heliconia Restaurant and Lounge, Hibiscus Restaurant and Lounge, Java Coffee Bar & Bistro, Jaxx International Grill, Lazeez Fusion, Mango Walk Restaurant and Lounge, Marriott Hotel, OMG!, RS53 RestoBar & Lounge, and the Flame Restaurant & Grill.

During GRW, restaurants in and around Georgetown would take the opportunity to showcase their best culinary skills to the public in the form of three-course meals at reduced prices. This gives patrons the opportunity to dine in fine style without fear of a high cost.

GRW “…. is an opportunity for our talented chefs and restaurant owners and ‘mixologists’ to showcase their creative passion and the true essence of dining with food that pay homage to our eclectic culture,” George stated.

This year’s Restaurant Week officially starts today and will continue through to July 2, 2023.

The media launch was held at Bistro Café & Bar and in attendance were representatives of longstanding sponsor of GRW, Republic Bank, among others.
