Prison service issues wanted bulletin for escapee

The Guyana Prison Service (GPS) yesterday issued a wanted bulletin for convicted escapee, Ronaldo Parris, 23, following his flight from the Lusignan Prison, East Coast Demerara on 20th June, 2023.

Parris’ last known address is listed as 416 `D’ Field Sophia, Georgetown. He was convicted on two counts of robbery under arms.

Enquiries revealed that the suspect was charged on August 04, 2022 with two counts of robbery under arms and was remanded to the Lusignan Prison on February 3, 2023. Parris was subsequently sentenced to two years imprisonment on each count. The GPS bulletin stated that on June 20th at about 0400 hours, prison officers conducted a tally when it was observed that an inmate from Unit 4 was missing. Investigators said that a roll call was done which confirmed that Parris was missing.

The GPS’ CCTV security footage was viewed which revealed that at about 0200 hours the convict could be seen jumping from the eastern side of the building into the farm yard and after making his way to the southern fence.  The scene was processed, photographed and statements were taken. Investigators disclosed that a report was made to the police around 0900 hours the said day.  The prison service has not explained how it was so easy for the man to escape when security has been such a major preoccupation at the revamped Lusignan facility.

The GPS is warning persons that aiding and abetting any prison escapee is a criminal offence. The public is further advised that any information regarding the whereabouts of Parris should be conveyed to the Director of Prisons, the nearest police station or 911.
