Shot fired at Riverview businessman, two held

Two men are currently in custody over the firing of a weapon at  a businessman.

According to reports, the firearm was discharged at a 24-year-old businessman of Riverview, Ruimveldt, on Monday at about 23.30 hours. The shooting occurred at Lot 2 Riverview, Ruimveldt, by one of the two males who was armed with a handgun.

Investigations revealed that on Monday, the businessman and his wife were inside of their shop which is located in front of his house, when he observed the two suspects walking on Riverview, Ruimveldt Main Road, approaching his shop. As they reached his shop, one of the suspects pulled a handgun from his waist and discharged a round in his direction, but the bullet did not hit him. The man and his wife immediately ran into their yard and took cover.

The men then escaped on foot along Ruimveldt Public Road. The matter was reported to the police and acting on information received, ranks went to Norton and Chapel streets, Lodge, where the two 28-year-old males were contacted.

As the ranks were approaching the men, they observed one take out a handgun from his waist and throw it on the ground. The firearm was retrieved and it was observed to be a 9mm pistol with a magazine containing three live rounds of matching ammunition.

The men were told of the offences committed, arrested and cautioned and are currently in custody as further investigations are in progress.
