Afruica Gentle eliminated number #1 seed Renola Jordan in the Ladies Open when the Guyana Tennis Association (GTA) ‘One Guyana Open Championship’ continued yesterday at the National Racquet Centre, Woolford Avenue.
Gentle prevailed 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinal showdown to seal her place in the semi-final section of the division.
Meanwhile in the Men’s Open, Philip Squires, Aubrey Younge, Nathan DeNobrega, Surenda Khayyam, and Ronald Murray advanced to the next round, following commanding victories.
Squires crushed Zack Panday 6-1, 6-0, whilst Younge made light work of Leroy Chapman 6-1, 6-1, and DeNobrega blanked Jeremiah Kalekeyzi 6-0, 6-0. Similarly, Surendra Khayyam downed Malik Barker 6-4, 6-2, and Ronald Murray bested Elwyn Levius 6-2, 6-1. The event continues today at the same venue with another round of matches.
