CANU detains Herstelling man over 23 lbs cocaine

The Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) yesterday detained a Herstelling man after cocaine was found in the car that he was in.

CANU said in a release that its officers conducted an operation at the Young Professional Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD) where they intercepted a motor car bearing Registration number PVV 4385, with the suspect. A subsequent search of the motor car in the presence of the suspect revealed nine brick-like parcels suspected to be cocaine.                                                 

CANU said that Permanand Persaud also known as Jason, 32 years of Herstelling, EBD was arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the suspected narcotic. The narcotic tested positive for cocaine and weighed approximately 23 lbs. (about 10.52 kg) with a street value of approximately  $10.6 million. Investigations are ongoing.
