Men’s champion Wiltshire makes perfect start in Guinness Squash Championship

Defending men’s champion Shomari Wiltshire started his campaign with a comfortable win on day two of the Guinness Senior National Squash championships on Wednesday evening at the Georgetown Club, Camp Street.

Wiltshire had a straight sets win over Jason van Dijk 11-2, 11-4, 11-6.

Meanwhile, Samuel Ince-Carvalhal won in three straight against Regan Pollard 11-7, 11-5, and 11-3 while Nicholas Verwey was taken to five sets by Ben Mekdeci before winning 4-11, 11- 5, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8, and Steven Xavier defeated Deje Dias 11-7, 9-11, 11-5, 11-8. Also Jason–Ray Khalil made light work of Jonathan Antczar 11-1, 11-0, and 11-1, whilst Louis De Silva bested Regan Rodrigues 11-2, 11-2, and 11-4, and Alex Arjoon side downed Alex Arjoon 11-6, 11-1, and 11-7. Continuing in the men’s division, Avinash Oditt got the better of Justin Ten-Pow 11-6, 11-6, and 11-7, while Jerazeno Bell won against Louis Da Silva 11-4, 12-10, and 14-12, Demetrius De Abreu took care of Andrew Peroune 11-3, 8-11, 11-4, and 11-6, and Miguel Wong defeated Nandishraj Singh 11-5, 11-7, and 11-4.

Similarly, Michael Alphonso stopped Mohryan Baksh 11-6, 11-4, 11-4 and Josh Verwey beat Jeremy Ten-Pow 11-2, 11-3, 11-5.

In the women’s open: Mary Fung a Fat defeated Avery Arjoon 11-4, 11-2, 11-3, Ashley De Groot swept aside Emily Fung A Fat 11-1, 11-1, 11-1 and Akeila Wiltshire won against Victoria Arjoon 11-6, 11-7, 11-5. On the other hand, Joseph Mekdeci and Narendra Singh recorded wins in the men’s over-50 category following victories over Brian Young and Rob Edwards respectively. Also, Tian Edwards fell to Lydia Fraser 7-11, 4-11 and 2-11 in the women’s veteran division. Reigning women’s champion Nicolette was scheduled to start her title defence against Larissa Wiltshire yesterday. The finals in all divisions will be played this weekend.
