Stability and personal security are absolute prerequisites before I return to live in Guyana

Dear Editor,

President Irfaan Ali has invited the Guyanese Diaspora to come back to Guyana bringing their wealth and experience with them to help propel Guyana’s development. I do not think that President Irfaan Ali really understands the Guyanese Diaspora in that many are settled overseas. As well as, many are concerned about the PPP and PNC continually fighting each other for power which translates into Indian Guyanese and African Guyanese continually fighting each other for power. This means that at any time Guyana can go economically, socially and politically unstable. Should the Guyanese Diaspora, many of whom ran from the PNC dictatorship, return to Guyana what would happen should there be a change in Government?

The attempted rigging of the March 2020 General Election in favour of the PNC led APNU +AFC have left a bad taste for some of us in the Guyanese Diaspora. President Irfaan Ali needs to heed my advice and work with the Main Opposition developing trust, mutual understanding and mutual respect. This does not mean we should have Shared Governance as that is just a ploy by some to get into Government through the backdoor. By cooperation it is hope that conflict will be reduced in society. President Irfaan Ali can start by consulting with the Opposition Leader as is constitutionally required. Before I uproot and come back to Guyana there would need to be more economic, social and political stability together with increased personal security.

Sincerely,

Sean Ori
