Couchman, Sandiford extend lead National Junior Chess Championship

Joint leaders Kyle Couchman and Keron Sandiford battled to a stalemate in round six when the Milex National Junior Chess Championship continued at the National Stadium, Providence.

This was disclosed by an official release from the Guyana Chess Federation. According to the correspondence, a winner was unable to be realised in the top of the table encounter resulting in Couchman and Sandiford leading the standings on five points apiece at the end of round six.

Meanwhile, defending champion Ricardo Narine was held to a draw by Ronan Lee which further hurt his hopes of retaining the title. Narine currently sits in sixth place on three points, whilst Lee climbs to 2.5 points.

On the other hand, Matthew Singh despite losing to Ethan Lee, is perched on four points in the third position. Ethan Lee and Oluwadare Oyeyipo follow closely behind on 3.5 points respectively, while siblings Nicholas and Alexander Zhang are on 2 and 1.5 points apiece. Three rounds remain in the tournament.
