Twenty-four-year-old, Shaquille Goodluck (address not stated), appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday before Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus where he was charged with armed robbery.

It is alleged that on January 4, at Public Road, Kitty, Georgetown, while in the company of another, and armed with a gun, Goodluck robbed Hamed Asmi of one Apple iPhone 10 valued $150,000 and $200,000 cash.

On the day in question at about 1900 hours, the complainant was in his Al Madina supermarket. While seated at the cash register, Goodluck along with another male entered the store and pretended to be customers. They proceeded to hold Asmi at gunpoint and robbed him of his phone and cash. They then escaped on a motorcycle. Police acting on intelligence gathered arrested the accused and informed him of the allegation made against him. He admitted to being a part of the robbery. Further investigation revealed that Goodluck was charged for the illegal possession of ammunition in 2022 but the matter was dismissed.

The police prosecutor objected to bail based on the seriousness and prevalence of the offence, and the fact that the defendant was captured after a wanted bulletin was issued by the Guyana Police Force.

The acting Chief Magistrate asked the defendant why he should be granted bail and he responded by saying “Your worship, my girlfriend and my sister have nobody, I’m the only bread winner of the family.”

Bail was refused and the defendant was remanded to prison until August 16 for statements.
