(Trinidad Guardian) Horrified relatives say the charred remains discovered in an outhouse in Maraval on Thursday are those of their loved one Anastacia Waldron. However, the police are yet to confirm that the remains are Waldron’s.

The partial remains of the 20-year-old were found face-down in the outhouse at the back of her home at Clovis Trace, Morne Coco Road, around 3.45 pm that day. The gruesome discovery was made by officers who were responding to a missing person’s report.

When police arrived at Waldron’s home on Thursday, they saw smoke coming from the outhouse located ten feet from her home and upon checking the small galvanise structure, they found the remains in the pit, with the feet sticking out.

Waldron, a customer service representative with the KFC branch in Maraval, was reported missing by a cousin around 3.30 pm on Thursday. The relative last saw Waldron on Monday around 3.45 pm as she left for work dressed in a monogrammed T-shirt and black pants.

Another relative confirmed receiving a text from Waldron around 1.30 pm on Wednesday that she had finished her shift and was at home. However, calls to her cell phone after that went unanswered.

Waldron’s relatives wept yesterday over the horrific killing. Speaking with Guardian Media, relatives said they observed a cable wire wrapped around her neck when she was pulled from the pit, leading them to believe she may have been strangled prior to being dumped and set alight.

Standing near Waldron’s house, a relative recalled last seeing her around 1 am on Tuesday, as the two returned home from work. As the two parted ways and the cousin asked her if they would be meeting to go to work the following day, the grieving woman said Waldron never responded. “When I turned around, she just smiled at me and  we went our separate ways.”

She also messaged Waldron around 3.34 pm the day after to find out if she was going to work but got no response. “I walked down the road to go to work and kept calling her phone but got no response.”

Concerned after another relative came to look for Waldron at work on Thursday, the two later went to the police station and filed a missing person’s report.

Referring to the discovery by officers who accompanied them to Waldron’s home, the cousin said they were shocked to hear one of the lawmen say that he saw a skull.

The remains were removed from the outhouse. “They may be cut her up, I don’t know. We saw her foot alone, that’s how we make her out,” a cousin said.

Asked if they were certain it was Waldron’s remains, a relatives said they were able to identify her as she never used to cut her toenails.

They said she was not a troublesome person, but “one who used to go out and lime and come back home… enjoy life normal”.

An elderly woman who lived close by shook her head in horror as she said Waldron “never had any confusion with anyone”.

Begging for answers as to why, the upset woman questioned, “What allyuh do the girl that for?”

She expressed surprise that no one heard anything.

The woman claimed Waldron’s bedroom had been messy which was unlike the young woman.
