Mocha boy, 17, suspected to have drowned at Soesdyke Creek

Police are investigating the alleged drowning of 17-year-old Myles Munroe, a Customer Service Agent of Qualfon, Providence, East Bank Demerara, which occurred over the weekend at Chanta Creek, Soesdyke-Linden Highway.

The deceased resided at Mocha, East Bank Demerara.

Police ranks visited the scene on Saturday and enquiries revealed that Munroe and a group of friends visited Chanta Creek between 1 pm and 4.15 pm.

Companions noticed that Munroe had gone missing, and his whereabouts were unknown.  An alarm was raised, and his friends, along with public-spirited persons, formed a search party. While searching, Munroe’s motionless body was found under the water in the said creek. The body was examined, and no mark of violence was seen.

The body was taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where Munroe was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.

The body was subsequently escorted to the Memorial Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

His father Forbes Munroe mourned the loss of a young man with such a bright future ahead.

The deceased, who was the youngest of five siblings was regarded as a child with a pleasant demeanour according to his father.

Referring to the deceased as his “sugar lump” the father said that while he may be coming to grips with what happened, justice must take its course.

Geneisa Crandon, a friend of the deceased told Stabroek News that Munroe was a very amicable and peaceful individual as they both attended the Diamond Secondary School.

“Myles was not a person who picked trouble with people”, she related.
