A 30-year-old resident of Grove Housing Scheme succumbed to his injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) after the car which he was driving struck a culvert on Sunday morning on the Little Diamond Public Road, East Bank Demerara.

Dead is Ishmael Cort of Lot 33 North East Grove, East Bank Demerara who was the driver of a white Toyota Axio motor car bearing registration number, PAD 8961, a police report said.

Enquiries disclosed that around 11.30 pm on Saturday the vehicle’s owner, Keyah Cort, parked the car at the address where he resides and went to bed. At about 3.05 am on Sunday, Keyah Cort received a telephone call that informed him that his vehicle was involved in an accident on the Little Diamond Public Road.

Keyah Cort told the police that he then made checks for his vehicle and observed that it was missing. He then left for the scene and saw his vehicle with extensive damage, mostly to the front, on the road. He was then informed that the driver, Ishmael Cort (his brother), had collided with the culvert. Ishmael Cort was taken out of the vehicle in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Diamond Hospital. He was transferred to the GPH for further treatment but later succumbed to his injuries. Investigations are in progress.
