Britton, George double strikes help Rising Stars whip Kings

Rising Strikers whipped Victoria Kings 5-1 when the East Coast Demerara zone of the NAMILCO U17 football tournament continued yesterday at the Victoria Community Center ground.

The visitors got off to the perfect start when Diego Britton scored in the 33rd minute, blasting his effort into the back of the net from inside the box. The 1-0 lead was maintained at halftime.

The home side equalised through Kurwin Maxwell, who placed his effort past the goalkeeper in the 51st minute.

The lead proved to be short-lived as Britton made his presence felt once more, racing onto another through pass before lashing his effort into the far corner in the 52nd minute.

A further three unanswered goals in the space of seven minutes ensured Rising Strikers walk away with the vital result.  Shamar George pushed the score to 3-1 with a powerful strike into the roof of the net in the 61st minute, before sealing his double four minutes later with a thumping shot into the bottom corner.

A penalty conversion from custodian Raheem McGregor in the 68th minute sealed the result for the visitors.

In another fixture, Mahaica defeated Ann’s Grove 1-0. Trevon Porter separated the two teams in the 42nd minute, stabbing into the back of the net after an initial free-kick crashed into the woodwork and fell into his path.

Meanwhile, in the East Bank Demerara section at the National Training Center, Providence, Agricola mauled Friendship 4-0. Demane Cort, Leon Hope, Floyd Boyce and Brian Lambert netted in the 40th, 43rd, 47th and 68th minute respectively.

Similarly, Grove Hi-Tech downed Timehri Panthers-A 3-1. Samuel Garnett, Rasheed Evans and Devon Padmore found the back of the net in the 30th, 44th and 65th minute respectively.

Shannon Samnauth recorded a consolation goal in the 75th minute. Meanwhile, Timehri Panthers-B squeaked past Diamond United 4-3.

The quartet of George Young, Orin Solomon, Shawn Cameron and Joel Williams scored in the fourth, 34th, 49th and 69th minute respectively.

For Diamond, Romeo Bradford recorded a double in the 13th and 65th minute, while Ronaldo Adams netted in the 49th minute.  On Saturday at the same venue in the East Bank section, Agricola downed Herstelling 4-2. Cort, Ryan Roberts and Boyce scored in the 40th, 46th and 50th minute respectively, while an own goal added to the score in the 12th minute.

For the losers, Kevin Jeffrey and Solomon Austin scored in the 15th and 61st minute each. Also, Timehri Panthers-B gained a walkover from Friendship.
