Establish an elite team of auditors to audit our oil suppliers

Dear Editor,

The decision made by the current administration on how to proceed with the loss of talent at the GRA is not all encompassing of the situation we are in as a Nation. If we look at the situation from the oil supplier’s perspective, they stand to lose millions, if not billions of dollars in funds, if the GRA has a top notch auditing system with highly talented individuals. It costs the oil companies next to nothing to poach the best talent at the GRA so as to avoid paying a high cost after a thorough audit of their reported costs. With this in mind, our Nation should establish an elite team of auditors with a very robust system to audit our oil suppliers.

The initial emphasis being in the establishment of a very thorough and robust audit process and system. The elite team of auditors should also be paid the equivalent in total compensation as the opposing team that has gone over to the other side.

Recruiting of our top performers from the University of Guyana, training by expert auditing companies, and special bonuses that compensate them for finding at least three times their salary in accepted cost savings from each annual audit will help ensure that the newly established elite team of auditors are retained within the GRA. The compensation package should also consider housing and transportation perks with favourable financing.

Sincerely,
