Buxton Stars down Dynamic in East Coast League

Buxton Stars defeated Dynamic FC by a 2-1 score-line when the East Coast Demerara Football Association Senior Men’s League continued on Wednesday evening.

Hosted at the Buxton Community Centre ground, all three of the aforesaid conversions occurred in the opening half of a cagey affair. The home side took the initial lead under fortuitous circumstances, as Jamali Major found the back of the net in the 10th minute.

A corner-kick ignited a goal-mouth scramble, which allowed Jamali Major to stab his effort into the back of the net after the ball fell fortuitously into his path. The lead proved to be short-lived, as an own goal leveled proceedings in the 13th minute.

A cross from the right side of the field sparked another goal-mouth scramble, which unfortunately resulted in the defender deflecting the ball into his own net. However, Buxton Stars would not be denied the important result as Mark Morgan restored their one-goal advantage following a 35th minute conversion.

It was another incidental conversion as a freekick from outside the box was spilled by the opposing goalkeeper into the path of the onrushing Morgan, who lashed his effort into the back of the net from inside the penalty area.

Despite being reduced to 10 players in the 70th minute following the expulsion of Kobe Durant, who received his second yellow card, Buxton would not be denied, as they held firm in a bruising second stanza to seal the win.

Head coach of the victorious Buxton outfit, Sherry Abrams, said in a post-match comment, “This victory is one that we planned for, and the players executed the plan. This was our first game in the league and Dynamic’s second game, and Dynamic was the only team that we believed would give us some competition. We came out with a plan, executed it, scored early, but conceded an own goal, which happens in football. This win puts us in a good position because this is their second game and they have lost. We know the rest of the teams are not as strong as them, but we will take it one game at a time and execute, and hopefully by the end of the six games, we will be victorious.”

Meanwhile, Mahaica Determinators downed Airy Hall 1-0 via a Julius Hamilton second half effort in the 54th minute. The event will continue at the same venue on Monday night with another doubleheader.
