A 36-year-old farmer was arrested by police on Saturday after he was found with an unlicensed shotgun and ammunition during an intelligence-led operation

Ranks from Regional Police Division #9 went to Mariro Ranch, located along the Karasabai access road. On arrival at the Ranch House, Kelbert Isaac, a 36 year-old farmer of South Pakaraimas was contacted and told that the police had received information that he had a firearm at the ranch and would like to search the premises.

Police say Isaac had no objections and the ranch was searched in his presence. A brown 12- gauge shotgun was found braced against a wall along with three 12-gauge cartridges in a plastic bag on a table.

Police took possession of the shotgun and ammunition and asked Isaac if he had a firearm licence to which he replied in the negative.

He was cautioned about the offence, arrested and escorted to the Lethem Police Station along with the firearm and ammunition. He is in custody assisting with the investigation.
