Foundation work for a  new apartment complex is underway at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara on land facing the Atlantic Ocean.

The project is the vision of the ZARC Group of companies, chaired by diamond miner, Ryan Pereira and aims to cater to the increasing demand for accommodation for expatriates and professionals, sources say.

According to a representative of, Shandong Dejian International E&T Corporation (Guyana) Inc spearheading this urban endeavour, the foundation for the apartment complex and enabling works are underway and this is expected to last for at least eight months. When Stabroek News visited the area sand-filling and preparatory works were evident.

The apartment complex aspires to cater to a diverse spectrum of housing needs. The final design is still being worked on.

As news of the impending transformation percolated throughout the neighbourhood, some eagerly anticipated the potential vibrancy and convenience this development might introduce while others expressed reservations about any potential disruption to Liliendaal’s established tranquility.

Ashely, a resident in the area vocalized this sentiment, stating, “Preserving Liliendaal’s unique essence is paramount; I hope this new venture is respectful of our cherished community identity.”

The area had been in court for some time. Pereira had purchased the lands but plans for its development had been stalled due to the court action, this newspaper understands. (Deneita Fredericks)
