Venezuelan man suffers burns in BK Quarries apartment complex fire

A fire of unknown origin on Thursday destroyed an apartment at the BK Quarries Inc at Mazaruni River, leaving a man with first and second degree burns.

The Guyana Police Force reported that the fire started sometime around 2.45 pm while the lone occupant of the apartment was asleep.

The police identified the occupant as a 34-year-old Venezuelan national.

The gutted apartment

When he was awakened by the fire, the police said, he discovered that it had engulfed the apartment but he was able to run out of the building and raise an alarm.

Workers immediately responded with an onsite water tender and the fire was extinguished.

However, in the aftermath, 10 other apartments were severely damaged.

The injured tenant was taken to the Bartica Hospital, where he was admitted as a patient with first and second degree burns about his body.
