Sparendaam couple remanded over narcotics

Kevin Archer, a 31-year-old-gold miner and his 31-year-old wife Carletta Sutton, both of Lot 1 Sparendaam Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara, were arrested on 2023-08-19 and charged jointly yesterday with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

A release from the police said that the two accused appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court #1 before Magistrate Rochelle Liverpool, where the charge was read to them. They both pleaded not guilty and were remanded to prison.

The matter was adjourned to 7th September 2023 for disclosure.

During an exercise in the Plaisance, Better Hope and Vryheid’s Lust villages between 6 am and 7 am on August 19,  a search was carried out at the home of the couple, a release from the police had said.

In the kitchen area, the police said they found a plastic bag, which had inside twelve Bamboo, a quantity of transparent zip lock bags and two transparent plastic bags containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis. The contents were shown to the occupants of the home. They were told of the offence committed, cautioned and both denied ownership.

The police said they were both arrested and escorted along with the suspected narcotics to the Sparendaam Police Station.
