GDF Chief of Staff bestowed with Brazil army medal

Chief of Staff (CoS) of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Brigadier Omar Khan and Staff Sergeants (SSGTs) Brian Wishart and Devendra Narine were on Friday  decorated by the Brazilian Ambassador to Guyana Maria Clara Duclos Carisio with the Brazilian Army Medal.

A release from the GDF said that the Brazilian Army Medal, instituted by Ordinance No. 219, on March 14, 2016, standardized by Ordinance No. 559, on June 9, 2020, is intended to distinguish citizens and civil institutions, Brazilian or foreign, members of the Brazilian Navy, the Brazilian Air Force and the Auxiliary Forces, as well as their military organizations that have performed outstanding action or relevant service in favour of the interest and good name of the Brazilian Army.

The release said that CoS was honoured for his diplomacy and role in furthering cooperation with the two militaries while the SSGTs received their commendation from the Brazilian Defence Ministry for their exceptional performance at the Esie School of Logistics and Mechanical Maintenance in Realengo, Rio de Janeiro last year, where they both earned a Diploma in Logistics and Mechanical Maintenance.
