The New Thriving and BK quarries are among those recently awarded for their mining performance.
The Guyana Gold and Diamond Miners Association (GGDMA) in a release on Thursday offered its congratulations to the top miners in Guyana. At the awards ceremony held to mark mining week. President of the GGDMA, Andron Alphonso, called on miners to redouble their efforts to bring up the production numbers while calling on the government to expand areas for mining and the infrastructure in Guyana’s mining areas.
The president of the GGDMA lauded the government for improved assistance and said that, “over the past few years the government has increased its support for the industry and I am pleased to say we have, over the past few years, developed a much better working relationship. It is therefore fitting that this year’s theme is `Safety & Sustainability – An inclusive approach for the mining sector to drive economic growth’. This industry needs government’s support to thrive, we don’t need handouts, we need people who are willing to listen and work to help us achieve the targets we have set.”
He singled out the government support for efforts to move towards mercury-free mining.

2. Environmental Stewardship – Desmond Mattes.
3. Outstanding Performer – Linda Hopkinson.
4. Top Gold Producer (Small Miners) – Viola Stoll.
5. Top Gold Producer (Excluding Traders/Dealers) – Adamantium Holdings.
6. Top Gold Traders – Gold Target Export.
7. Top Diamond Producer – Luiz S. Lagoin.
8. Top Diamond Traders – Sophdiam.
9. Top Producer, Quarry (Stone) – BK International Quarries.
