Traditional giant Pouderoyen rebounded from their previous loss in the West Demerara Football Association Senior Men’s League, quelling newcomer Uprising by an 8-0 scoreline yesterday at the Tuschen ground.

Any hopes of a competitive encounter between the sides were quickly extinguished, as Pouderoyen stormed to a 4-0 lead at the end of the first half. Recent recruit Jaret Williams made his presence felt with a third-minute conversion before Chidune Matthew converted from the penalty mark in the 13th minute to make it 2-0.

Midfielder Darrell Abrams then skipped past two challenges before slamming his effort into the back of the net in the 20th minute to push the score to 3-0. Williams found the back of the net once more to complete the perfect first half, sealing his brace in the process with a 33rd-minute strike.

The second stanza mirrored the first period, as Pouderoyen recorded an additional four goals, this time in the space of 16 minutes. Matthews sealed his double via a 60th-minute shot into the far corner before Kennaz Stephen got into the scoring act in the 70th minute to increase the score to 6-0.

Matthews then completed his hat-trick four minutes later with a powerful shot from inside the area, before Stephen sealed the scoreline two minutes later to complete his brace, firing his effort into the lower left corner.

Meanwhile, Uitvlugt and Belle West battled to a 2-2 stalemate. All four conversions were registered in the first half. Belle West raced ahead in the 15th minute, as Shoan Williams etched his name on the scorer’s sheet. Uitvlugt eventually replied in the form of Casper Evans, who slotted past the goalkeeper from inside the penalty area in the 38th minute.

However, Belle West immediately responded as Ntini August restored their marginal advantage at 2-1 following a 40th-minute strike into the right side of the net. Once more, Belle West’s lead proved to be short-lived, as Travis Fraser stabbed home in the 41st minute to equalize and a share of the spoils.
