Two labourers charged with murder of Parika man

Khemraj Persaud called ‘Kato’, a 20-year-old labourer of Parika Façade, East Bank Demerara; and Ganguly Rambarran, a 24-year-old labourer of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, were arrested on Sep-tember 4, and jointly charged on Septem-ber 7, with the murder of Ravi Ramrattan, called ‘Socks’, of Parika.

The two accused appeared before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court where the charge was read to them. They were not required to enter a plea and were remanded to prison.

The men are scheduled to make their next court appearance on October 19 for statements.

Government pathologist, Dr Nehaul Singh, had earlier this week performed a post-mortem examination on Ramrattan and gave the cause of death as multiple incised wounds.

Ramrattan’s body was found on February 9, in the vicinity of the Lotus Mall Parika, East Bank Essequibo. It was clothed in long black pants, a black jersey and wrapped in a reddish bath towel. Upon examination, the body was observed to have chop wounds. A bed sheet with what appeared to be blood was found next to the body.
