Motorcyclist ‘Tommy Lee’ dies in North Road collision

A motorcyclist is dead following a collision with a motorcar in the wee hours of yesterday.

Dead is 30-year-old Lloyd Britton known as ‘Tommy Lee’ of Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara.

Investigations revealed that Britton, astride motorcycle #CJ 4079, and a car, PNN 7200, driven by Abayomi Hart, a 39-year-old of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, collided at the intersection of North Road and Camp Street, Georgetown, which resulted in the death of Britton.

Based on the investigation, the motorcycle was proceeding west along North Road at a fast rate and on approaching the intersection of North Road and Camp Street, where a traffic signal was flashing red in his direction, the motorcyclist failed to stop and collided with the car which was proceeding south along Camp Street.

As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist was flung some distance away, ending up on the pavement near a concrete fence, with injuries to his head and body.

Britton was picked up by a police patrol in an unconscious state and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Emergency Unit, where he succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical attention.

The body is currently at the Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary while the driver of the car is in police custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation.
