Bizarre introduction of ‘Policia’ signs

Dear Editor,

The bizarre introduction of ‘Policia’ signs on Guyana Police Force vehicles is a mistake that should have been admitted and corrected, the Commissioner of Police chose however to ‘double down’ and issued a statement in defence of the signage that said “GPF Police patrol vehicles to have both English and Spanish writing as a strategic and inclusive approach towards improving service delivery”.

Apart from the general asininity of the idea there is the issue of whether or not this is legal under the present laws of Guyana. Can we expect Arabic script should an influx of middle easterners join the workforce?

Editor, given the recent developments I am compelled to ask if we are being ruled by edict or democratic principles. If the latter, someone should let Commissioner Hicken know ASAP!

Sincerely,

Robin Singh
