Decomposed body of Grove man found at home

Police are investigating the death of a 52-year-old unemployed man, Michael Benjamin, of Lot 242 Downer Street, Grove, East Bank Demerara, whose decomposed body was discovered in his home on Wednesday afternoon.

Investigations revealed that Benjamin occupied an unfinished wooden structure, which was unsecured (no door or windows). At around 15:30 hours on Wednesday, neighbours began smelling a strong odour from where Benjamin lived. Upon checking, Benjamin’s partly decomposed body was observed lying motionless on the floor.

It is reported that before the discovery was made, a family member last saw Benjamin at around 16:00 hours on September 15 and they had a brief conversation.

Police investigators who attended the scene noted that nothing about the surroundings suggested acts of violence.

The body is at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
