Mahaicony truck driver dies in hit-and-run

A hit-and-run fatal accident along the Coldingen Public Road, East Coast Demerara in the area of Chico Ramas gas station on Friday morning has claimed the life of a 25-year-old Mahaicony driver.

Dead is Adzel Inniss of Burma Housing Scheme, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, who was driving a lorry – GAC 1443 – owned by a K Bacchus of West Coast Berbice. At approximately 4.30 am on Friday he reportedly stepped out of his vehicle and into the path of an oncoming Toyota Fielder station wagon. The police have yet to ascertain the registration number, driver, and owner of the vehicle.

Investigations so far have revealed that Inniss was driving east along the Coldingen Public Road, when he stopped and pulled onto the parapet in the vicinity of Chico Ramas Gas Station. He then proceeded to step out of his vehicle and inadvertently stepped into the path of the Toyota station wagon which was proceeding in the same direction.

The car struck Inniss resulting in him sustaining serious injuries. Meanwhile the station wagon drove off in an easterly direction. The injured man was picked up by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body is at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
