Gunmen rob four at Coldingen gas station

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) is investigating the reported robbery of four persons at the Chico Ramos Gas Station, at Coldingen Public Road, East Coast Demerara on Thursday.

According to a statement issued by the police, the attack was carried out by four persons, who were all armed with handguns.

The attack occurred around 8.35 pm on Thursday.

The police said that the driver of a truck, GPP 9555, along with two other occupants of the vehicle stopped at the gas station to purchase diesel. They all had exited to make purchases when they observed that the truck that they had left turned on had been turned off. They immediately walked back to the eastern side of the gas station where one of the occupants of the truck, a 50-year-old self-employed man of Bush Lot Village, West Coast Berbice, felt someone grab his jersey.

His assailant then demanded money and other

valuables from him. The man was also dealt a blow to his head with what is assumed to be a handgun. The assailant thereafter went into the cabin of the truck and removed several items, while a second robber removed cash from the driver’s wallet.

A third robber assaulted and placed his hand into the 37-year-old pump attendant’s pocket and relieved him of $50,000 cash. The suspect also dealt him a blow to his forehead with what appeared to be a handgun. A fourth robber then dealt the other occupant of the truck a blow to his head with an object that is also assumed to be a handgun.

The suspects thereafter ran and jumped into a silver car, which was parked about 50 feet away from the service station and made good their escape in an eastern direction.

The police reported that the men were robbed of $75,000 cash, a BLU cellular phone valued at $25,000,  an A95 Samsung Galaxy smart phone valued $35,000, an iPhone 12 Pro Max valued $300,000, a Bluetooth headset valued $50,000, $50,000 cash and a wallet containing the driver’s  national identification card and driver’s licence.

The victims made a report to the Vigilance Police Station via telephone but were unable to identify the suspects because the area was dark, the police said.
