Police early yesterday arrested two men who were occupants of a car at Bamia, Linden Highway in which 12 bulky bags containing marijuana weighing about 12.5 pounds were found on the passenger seat behind the driver.

The police in a release disclosed that at around 4 am yesterday ranks were on a mobile patrol in the area when motor car PZZ 5562 approached the Bamia Checkpoint en route to Georgetown.

However, on seeing the police at the checkpoint, the police said, the car suddenly turned around and sped off.

“The ranks gave chase and intercepted the vehicle, which had two occupants: Leon Singh, a 30-year-old construction worker of Sophia, and Jermain Sinclair, a 31-year-old taxi driver of New Amsterdam Berbice,” the release said.

After a search was conducted of the car, the drugs were and the two men were told of the offence committed and cautioned but did not respond. They were arrested and escorted to the Mackenzie Police Station, where the bags were weighed in their presence. They remain in custody pending charges.
