Trinidad Knight Riders should have been invited to the State breakfast

Dear Editor,

The snub of the Trinidad Knight Riders from a State breakfast was a crass move that did not go unnoticed and, has embarrassed Guyana on a world stage.

If President Ali wanted to invite the Guyana team in a personal capacity he should have done so at his private residence, to utilize the State House, its staff, and resources for a self-indulgent shoulder rub with celebrities is an abuse of state resources. To be clear, if both teams were invited, it would have been quite acceptable. To add further injury, when President Ali took a break from the back-slapping and conviviality to address the nation on the ultra-serious matter of Venezuela’s actions regarding our exclusive economic zone and oil production, he did not even change from his festive garb, he went right back to the bake and saltfish upon completion of his address.

Editor, H.E. has a propensity for dancing, Deejaying, and playing ‘dress up’ on every possible stage including the United Nations. It is an odd profile for one touted as a protégée of Bharrat Jagdeo, who is the opposite in every regard; the master needs to find the right strings to rein in this exuberant man.

Sincerely,
