Nineteen-year-old on $500,000 bail after causing death charge

A 19-year-old recently appeared before Senior Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul and was placed on $500,000 bail after pleading not guilty to the charge of dangerous driving and causing the death of a 26-year-old man.

Amir Ruplal, of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara (WCD), is accused of causing the death of  motorcyclist  Muneshwar Singh on June 30th on the Leonora Public Road, West Coast Demerara. The two were both motorcyclist at the time.

After being placed on bail the matter was adjourned to December 5th.

According to reports the accident involved the two motorcycles, CL 9563, owned and ridden by Ruplal and CM 1052 owned and ridden by Singh who resided at of Lot 7 Cornelia Ida, WCD.

The police said that enquiries disclosed that Ruplal was speeding east along the northern side of the road when he overtook a red motorcar (number unknown) and lost control of his motorcycle which flipped and collided with Singh’s bike which was proceeding in the opposite direction.

As a result of the collision, both riders fell on the road and sustained injuries.

Singh was picked up by public-spirited persons in an unconscious state while Ruplal was found in a conscious state.

The two motorcyclists were rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where Singh succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical treatment. 

Ruplal was treated and later sent away after which he was arrested by the police. A breathalyzer test was conducted on him and no trace of alcohol was found in his system.
