Official draw for Concacaf Men’s U20 qualifiers set Wednesday

The official draw for the 2024 edition of the CONCACAF Men’s U20 Qualifiers will occur October 11th with the Golden Jaguars seeded in pool 4 of the five-pool selection process.

Guyana has been placed alongside the Cayman Islands, Dominica, the British Virgin Islands, Saint Martin and Martinique.

The Guyanese finished third in Group ‘D’ of the 2022 edition of the qualifiers, ending with a record of one win, one draw and one defeat for four points and a goal differential of -1. In the 2020 edition, Guyana ended in second place in Group ‘A’ of the qualifiers with a record of three wins and a draw for nine points and a goal differential of +10.

Pool 1 comprises the highest-ranked nations in Guatemala, El Salvador, Haiti, Cuba, Jamaica and Canada while Pool 2 contains Trinidad and Tobago, Curacao, Nicaragua, Antigua and Barbuda, Puerto Rico and Bermuda.

Pool 3 features Saint Kitts and Nevis, Suriname, Aruba, Grenada, Belize and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines while the lowest-ranked sides in Barbados, Anguilla, and the Turks and Caicos Islands make up Pool 5.

The qualifying tournament, which is scheduled to feature 27 nations, is scheduled for the period of February 23–March 2nd next year. The teams have been seeded in their respective pools based on their current rankings. Guyana is ranked 27th. The host of the event will be announced shortly.

The top six seeds that have automatically qualified for the 2024 Championship group stage segment are the defending champions, United States of America, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic.

According to CONCACAF, the teams will be placed in Groups A through E, respectively, based on their order of random selection. Following the conclusion of the group stage qualifiers, the winner of each pool will progress to the group stage segment of the championship section.

The 12 teams in the championship round will be divided into three groups of four teams, with the top two teams from each pool, as well as the two best third-place finishers, advancing to the quarterfinal section. The resulting top four finishers [semi-finalists] will earn berths to the 2025 FIFA Men’s U20 World Cup.
