Rivers View, Potaro, into the ‘Rats’ Memorial Football semi-finals

Rivers View and Potaro Strikers earned semi-final berths in the ‘Rats’ Memorial Football Championship following commanding quarterfinal victories on Wednesday evening at the Bartica Community Center ground.

Rivers View thrashed the AK Galaxy 8-2. Seven of the eight conversions were recorded between the duo of Andrew Simmons and Omario Lake in the lopsided contest. Simmons led the way with a helmet trick in the 42nd, 53rd, 63rd, and 74th minutes, after Lake, who recorded a first-half brace in the 25th and 31st minutes to set the tone for Rivers View, completed his hat trick in the 59th minute.

Adding to the score in the 88th minute was Andel Edwards. For the losers, Romario Perreira and Voldenor Da Fonseca recorded goals in the 33rd and 82nd minutes, respectively.

Similarly, the Potaro Strikers blanked Ballers United 4-0. The combination of Keron Spencer and Shane Jones engineered the rout with respective doubles. Spencer etched his name on the scorer’s sheet in the ninth and 49th minutes, while Jones tallied a second-half brace as he found the back of the net in the 51st and 71st minutes.

The winner of the tournament will pocket $300,000 and the championship trophy, while the second and third-place finishers will receive $200,000 and $100,000, respectively, and the corresponding accolade. The event concludes tomorrow at the same venue. Up until press time, the semi-final encounters were underway.
