The Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GRMSC) will stage its inaugural Drag Race meet in Essequibo today at the Mainstay/Whayaka Airstrip.

Dubbed ‘Essequibo Invasion’, the people of Essequibo will have their first taste of drag racing action in the historic meet.

In the past, the GMR&SC have talked about decentralizing the sport; primarily the shorter formats like drag racing and today’s ‘Essequibo Invasion’ has attracted several racers from Georgetown including motor racing stalwarts, Team Mohamed’s.

A large number of racers with their cars departed Parika for Essequibo yesterday afternoon. The Essequibians can expect quality action on the track today with Team Mohammed’s Lamborginhis expected to be the star attraction.

During a media interaction, GMR&SC Vice President, Shairaz Roshandin revealed that works were ongoing at the venue ahead of today’s meet. The track is expect to be in top shape and fans can expect fierce battles.

Additionally, last evening, fans turned out in their numbers for a meet and greet with the drivers from Georgetown at the Car Park tarmac in Anna Regina, the region’s central town. Fans were especially excited to catch a glimpse of Team Mohamed’s fleet of GTRs and Lamborginhis.

Tickets for the ‘Essequibo Invasion’ cost $2,000 for adults and $1,000 for children. The event races off at 11:00hrs.
