Private sector, gov’t meet on move to disconnect large users from power grid

Minister in the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar and the Senior Management of the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) yesterday met with Komal Singh, the Chairman of the Private Sector Commission and other members of the private sector on the recent move by GPL to take off large users from the grid during peak demand hours.

The large users were taken off due to insufficient generation which is at 174 MW against peak demand of 184.5 MW.

A release from the Ministry of Public Works said that an  exchange that lasted two hours on information sharing and concerns raised by the private sector was fruitful and timely. A small committee between GPL and the PSC will be set up for information sharing and for regular updates.

The private sector raised the issue of forecast demand and GPL’s plans to address it. The team responded to all questions and concerns raised by the private sector, the release said.
