Chan Chu, Benjamin and Thompson among winners at Karate C/ships

Yam Chan Chu, Jude Thompson and Chelsea Benjamin were among the winners when the Guyana National Karate Federation staged its Senior National Championship Sunday at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

In the female 14-17 Kata section, Benjamin secured the top spot followed by Anya Insanally who finished in second place while Ann Mary Holder and Isabella Ramlall shared the third position.

Benjamin also won the female 14-17 Kumite division, relegating Oshana Quamina to second place. Holder and Ramlall were joint third.

Similarly, Thompson clinched the Male 14-17 Kata title, edging Dimitri Cheong and joint third-place finishers David Hackett and Maheswar Dyasindoo. Thompson also secured the male 14-17 Kumite (68KG) title. Finishing in the runner-up position was Cheong, while the duo of Dyasindoo and Jeremy Hargobin shared third place.

Chan Chu won the female Senior Kata accolade, besting lone competitor Allure Thompson. Chan Chu also clinched the female Senior Kumite title, defeating Thompson and Gunwattie Sirpaul, who finished in second and third place, respectively. Below is the complete list of results.
